Specs 101 for the Uninitiated

The Communication & Ramifications of Specifications

Explore some of the basic principles of specification organization, language, procedures, general requirements and roles and responsibilities.  This session is appropriate for any member of the AEC industry (architect, engineer, contractor, product representative, owner, etc.) who would like a better understanding of specifications and their role in the project delivery process as well as basic procedures to avoid conflicts.

This presentation is good for 1.5 AIA LU's.

We can customize this presentation to manufacturer's, building product representative firms, CSI Chapters, Regions or any type of firm.

This workshop is facilitated by  Eric Lussier and  Cherise Lakeside. Their diverse backgrounds offer unique perspectives in addition to a dynamic presentation style.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the anatomy of a specification
  • Identify the role of the general conditions, supplementary conditions and basic requirements and how they affect individual specification sections
  • Illustrate some of the basic principles and procedures of specification writing and language
  • Recognize some of the most common areas of conflict in specifications and how to avoid them
